FLOWER MOSAICS ~ DOUBLE REVERSE TECHNIQUE
Nov. 4 &5 2021
10am-5pm LOCATION TBA
LEVEL ~ BEGINNER/INTERMEDIATE Create your own mosaic interpretation of a flower that looks realistic and breathtaking! Depending on your personal mosaic experience, you will have a choice of working in a traditional mosaic layout or trying an exciting and visually effective "brush-stroke" technique that Yulia uses to create her own flower portraits. We will be working with the stained glass. Double reverse method will be used to complete this project. This technique allows for a photorealistic depiction of an object and exact shape fitting. Because the pieces are laid face up, colors and shading can be matched exactly as desired. Both, materials and techniques will be discussed in depth with many demos given in groups and individually. Images provided by the instructor, or choose your own. This is an intermediate to advanced level course, although beginner students who have created at least 2-3 mosaics of any type are welcome to sign up.
Tuition: $425 incldes $50 materials fee
Landscape Mosaics: Mastering Aerial Perspective and Other Elements of Landscape Mosaic
LEVEL ~ BEGINNER/INTERMEDIATE What is a horizon line and how to find one? How to use an aerial perspective and apply it to a mosaic medium? What is the best way to select the colors for a landscape? This workshop starts with a presentation and a discussion of the structural elements of a landscape. After learning the theory we will move on to the practical part of this workshop where you will work on a 10”x12” landscape. In a process you will learn how to transfer an image onto a substrate, how to draw out the layout and figure out the size of tesserae to be used in different areas of the landscape. You will learn how to pick out the color palette in order to create an aerial perspective. We will discuss foregrounds and backgrounds and the best ways to mosaic the sky. At the end we will talk about finishing up the mosaics and grout color choices. Hands-on demos and individual discussions will be given throughout the workshop. Images provided by the instructor or choose your own.
Both workshops include in depth group and individual discussions, hands on demos, and lecture. Substrates, glue and images ( or bring your own and check it out with Yulia) will be provided.
Students need to bring their own tools and glass and/or ask Linda to pick some up in Asheville for an additional fee.
The artists and host work hard to create the best workshop experiences. Notice of cancellation 30 days in advance ~ refund minus a $100 processing fee. Under 30 days there will be no refund.
